'Earth Hour' at Fivelements, Puri Ahimsa

The international ‘Earth Hour’ is upon us and, being a healing space dedicated to
life transformation and love in action, we feel it is a crucial act that carries an incredibly important message and
feel it is a concept that we should all embrace.
Taking place on 30 March between 7 and 8 pm local time, the lights off event unifies people across the globe to shine a light on climate action, where individuals, businesses, cities and landmarks switch off their lights for one hour to draw attention to climate change.
More than just an event, Earth Hour is a movement to achieve mass response, harnessing the power of people to achieve global positive environmental impact.
March also coincides with the custom of ‘Nyepi’ – the Balinese New Year and ‘Day of Silence’, a day which echoes a similar act to Earth Hour as Balinese Hindus embrace a time of self-reflection, seeking purification and reconciliation with their God, Nature and loved ones.
Following rituals that see no activity, light or entertainment, Nyepi is a time for contemplation and an opportunity for Mother nature to pause and start again. Drawing the paralells between the two events and their timeliness within one another, the lights off concept is something Fivelements will embrace not just during these activities but also through other initiatives. On Nyepi, 7 March 2019, we saved approximately 55 kWh (kilowatt hours) of electricity by turning off unnecessary lights, air conditioners, and pond/pool pumps for the 24 hour duration.
On March 30th we will do this again for one hour being Earth Hour which we anticipate will save approximately 7.5 kWh, equivalent to approximately 39 kg of Carbon Dioxide or driving your car for a distance of 31 km.
